Welcome to Fall on the 42

Undeniably one of the biggest perks of life #onthe42 is its extended summer, which results in a mild temperate fall. An amazing tourist destination that you can visit all year round. You can watch the leaves change while hiking or biking our expansive trails, pick your own apples and pumpkins, or stop along one of our many roadside stands for produce grown right here. Witness the breathtaking monarch migration along our monarch trail, or witness the colourful splendor of fall from the Southernmost tip of mainland Canada; Point Pelee National Park. Enjoy our uptown shops savour the rich culture and hertiage represented at one of our many local restaurants, or take in our arts and music scene at our local galleries, theatres, and music venues. Wrap up your activity with some hand-pressed cider, lovingly crafted local food, or a trip along the EPIC wine route to one of the nearby wineries. There is so much to offer during fall #onthe42. You'll never want to ever leave, this destination. You will feel at home and less like a tourist.

The original occupants of 21-27 Erie Street North were the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), which were located in the building from 1925 until 1940.
If you look closely at the pediment located above the ground level entrance, you will notice it is inscribed with the date ‘1925’, as well as the most widely encountered symbol of the IOOF, the three-link chain with three initials, 'F', 'L' and 'T', one inside each link, signifying Friendship, Love and Truth.
Most recently the building has undergone a major transformation and is being brought back to life by its current owners. Swipe to see the after photo.

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day, everyone! In cooperation with Indigenous Peoples’ national organizations, the Government of Canada designated June 21 National Indigenous Peoples Day, a celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ culture and heritage.
In 1990, Quebec became the first province or territory to establish June 21 as a day to celebrate Indigenous culture. This date was chosen because it corresponds to the summer solstice. This is the longest day of the year, and for generations many Indigenous Peoples’ groups have celebrated their culture and heritage at this time of year.
Across Canada, the day is marked by ceremonies that highlight cultural performances and activities, displays of arts and crafts, and events that recognize the contributions by Indigenous people. Visit http://bit.ly/2M7DYIS for more information! #IndigenousPeoplesDay #ExperienceLeamington

The Leamington fairground was originally located on the north side of Talbot Street, just east of Leamington. However, due to the rapid growth of the town, the site moved to the south side of Talbot Street East. It moved a final time in 1887 to the site it remains on today in the north-east section of Leamington. The Leamington and Mersea Agricultural Hall was erected on this site, as well as a half-mile track, and a grandstand that could accommodate 500 people.

Don't forget to check out the 170th Leamington Fair going on today through Sunday at the Leamington Fairgrounds!

The Leamington District Fair is one of the oldest agricultural exhibitions in Western Ontario, having been first held in 1848. For many years the Gosfield and Mersea Agricultural Society was the only agricultural society in this district. The Leamington and Mersea Agricultural Society was organized in 1875, and assumed direction of the Fair. For several years the Fair was the third largest agricultural exhibition in the province.

Can you guess as to what this building is known as today?

And don't forget to check out the 170th Leamington Fair this weekend, June 15-17, 2018 at the Leamington Fairgrounds!
